So my campus has a weekly amateur football game!! Or so they told us: 'Oh yes, anyone is welcome, we have all ages, from seven to seventy!'
We should have been forewarned when they told us this week's match was still on in the rain. But my NY flatmate and I only stopped feeling smug, about putting on several layers and still showing up despite the conditions (wind, water, cold, etc.), once the other players started to arrive, dressed in: football shirts, shorts, shin guards, and cleats. Including our professor.
We soon realized that, in England, 7-year-olds are pros, and so was the 70-year-old (in full gear). But we still managed to make it through the 2 hours without any 'own goals' and have a super fun time, too. Watch out, Wembley!
